When To Pack Your Hospital Bag

When baby says it is time to go to the maternity ward many families are in a fluster. What must Mum take with her in her Hospital Maternity Bag (and Dad in his if he is planning on overnighting). Not forgetting your newborn’s Bag, as your Baby will greet you in his/her Birthday suit. It is essential to be organised and well prepared the first time you meet in person. This means packing the right essentials with you and making your labour experience a relaxed environment and you are confident with everything at hand.

When to Start Preparing Your Hospital Maternity Bag

Your GP, Midwife or Obstetrician will best estimate your delivery date although that is no guarantee because nature always has its way. Some mums wait for the baby shower in anticipation of handy gifts. This is definitely not something to leave to the last minute so take control. It is recommended to pack your hospital bag at 32-36 weeks of your pregnancy.

A Month Before Your Day

A month before your due date is the most conservative estimated time to start shopping for labour nighties, maternity pyjamas, socks and slippers, and all those important hospital essentials. Your Baby is also going to need lots of newborn goodies including jumpsuit’s, beanie, wrap’s and more. Layout everything on your bed and double check your bag and Bubs. It is also recommended to wash all babies items before wearing. It’s also great to re wash your clothes so they smell nice and fresh.

Next stop is to your local chemist for essentials like nappies, vaseline and babywipes. You are also going to need items of a personal nature such as breastcream, we highly recommend ‘Lanisnoh’ and of course maternity pads. These can go straight into your hospital bags, along with non-biodegradable things like toothbrush & toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner and your other personal items.. This is by no means a comprehensive list. Check out our Mums Hospital Bag’s for all the items included as standard in our pre packed hospital bags. Learn more

One Week Before Your Due Date

A week before your due date, start thinking about other luxury items you might like to add to spoil yourself. Think fast snacks, hydrating fluids, or even your favourite Chocolate for before and after your delivery. These could include crackers, biscuits, tea and your favourite coffee and your favourite chips! Not forgetting those extra spoils like light scented perfume, body scrub or even a face mask (if you have time). There is still much more to do to prepare for Babies arrival. If you run out of time at any stage you can rely on MaternityBag to take care of it for you.
