Maternitybag Supports Women In Domestic Violence
MaternityBag are proud to be associated with CAWLS as part of the Women’s Safety Package. We are honoured to be collaborating with Cawls in providing our Baby Go Bag's to women who are at risk of family violence in the Northern Territory.
CAWLS has set up health justice partnerships (HJP)with Central Australia Health Service and Central Australian Aboriginal Congress. CAWLS’ provides on-site legal assistance at these health services. The purpose of this model is to provide a more holistic service to women who are at risk of family violence through the collaboration between legal and health sectors recognising that a health setting may be a safe place for women at risk of family violence to seek assistance from a lawyer.
Ms de Brenni, Business Manager of CAWLS comments that "MaternityBag's 'Baby Go Bags' are a tool used by CAWLS lawyers to make a connection with women at the Health Services and engage them in conversation. The bags are very popular especially with women who have come in to Alice Springs from remote communities for the birth".
“CAWLS is also based in Tennant Creek which is located 500 km north of Alice Springs. While there is a midwife service in Tennant Creek, all women from this area are sent to Alice Springs for the birth of their babies and their families do not always have the means to travel with them. We have also supplied the midwife service in Tennant Creek with some of the baby gift bags for their clients and by all reports the bags are greatly appreciated”, said Ms de Brenni
